Pet food packaging fails in three predictable ways: the seal splits under a dropped 5 kg bag, the fat in the kibble migrates into the film and greys the print, and the pack will not stand up once a third of it has been scooped out. Custom printed pet food bags in this range are specified against all three, for dry dog food, cat food, treats, chews and freeze-dried raw.

Fat Migration Is the One People Miss

High-fat kibble and freeze-dried raw attack an under-specified sealant layer. The inside of the bag has to be chosen for the fat content of the recipe, not just for the weight of it, or the pack ends up translucent and greasy at exactly the point the customer picks it up. Tell us the fat percentage with the fill weight and we specify the sealant to it.

What weight can these bags carry?

Up to 25 kg with the gauge and seal width stepped up for it. The failure point on an underspecified pet food bag is the bottom seal, not the film.

Do they need a handle?

Above about 5 kg, yes. A die-cut hang hole tears at that weight; a welded or punched handle with a reinforcing patch does not.

Why fit a valve to a pet food bag?

To let air out as the bag is filled and stacked, so pallets stay square. It also stops the pack ballooning at altitude in air freight.

Zipper on a large bag — is it worth it?

On anything a household opens daily, yes. On a 20 kg wholesale sack it is film and cost with no benefit, since the bag is decanted.

What structure suits fatty kibble?

A structure with a fat-resistant inner ply. Oils migrate into an unsuitable sealant layer and the seal weakens over the shelf life.

Can these be made recyclable?

As mono-material PE, yes, and pet food is one of the categories where kerbside collection is realistic in more markets.

How do you test that the bag survives shipping?

Filled drop tests from pallet height, plus seal pull tests. Reports are issued with the pre-shipment inspection.

Flat bottom or stand up for pet food?

Flat bottom for premium shelf presence and stacking; stand up for smaller treat packs where the footprint matters more.

Will the print scuff in transit?

Not with the print trapped between plies rather than surface-printed. Reverse gravure printing puts the ink behind the outer film.

Can I print feeding guides and legal text small?

Down to about 4 pt positive. Reversed-out text needs to stay above 6 pt or it fills in on a matt substrate.
