The spout is sized against the viscosity, and a pouch ships flat, which is most of the freight saving over a bottle.

A Drink That Ships Flat and Is Drunk Without a Glass
A drink pouch replaces a bottle at roughly a tenth of the shipping volume before it is filled, and it is drunk straight from the pack. That second point drives most of the specification: the fitment or the straw hole has to work one-handed, for a child at a party or a runner mid-race.
Spout, Straw or Neither
- Screw-cap spout. Resealable, so the drink survives being put down. The default for juice, smoothies and anything over 200 ml.
- Straw hole. Cheaper and faster to fill, but the pack is finished once opened. Standard for children’s drinks and event handouts.
- No fitment. A sealed sachet for a gel or a shot, torn open and squeezed. The lightest option of the three.
Hot Fill, Cold Fill and Retort
How the drink is preserved decides the laminate more than what the drink is. A cold-filled juice with a short chilled life is a straightforward structure. A hot-filled or retorted drink needs a laminate and a fitment both rated for the temperature, or the pack distorts and the weld fails. Tell us the process at the quote stage, because it is not something that can be added later.
Sizes and Where They Go
100 ml to 330 ml for single servings, 500 ml to 1 L for take-home, and 1.5 L to 10 L for bulk and dispensing, where a handled spout pouch with a carry handle and a tap-compatible cap takes over. Every size runs in clear, printed or foil, and the foil structure is worth it wherever the pack will sit in daylight.

Specifying Drink and Juice Pouches: The Questions That Decide It
Spout or straw hole?
Spout if the drink is put down and picked up again; straw hole if it is finished in one go. The straw version is cheaper and faster to fill but cannot be reclosed.
Can a drink pouch be hot filled?
With a laminate and a fitment rated for it. A pack specified for cold fill distorts on a hot line and the failures appear as leakers days later rather than at the machine.
What is the largest drink pouch you make?
10 L, with a carry handle and a tap-compatible cap. Past about 1.5 L the construction changes enough that it is its own shape.
Will it stand up when full?
Yes, on a base gusset. Below about 100 ml there is not enough mass to open the base properly, which is why very small servings are usually flat sachets.
Can I have a clear pouch so the drink shows?
Yes, and it sells well. Understand the trade-off: light degrades vitamins and natural colours, so on a long-dated product a foil structure protects what a clear one displays.
Do you supply the straws?
We supply the pack and the straw hole. Straws are usually sourced locally because paper-versus-plastic rules differ by market and change often.
Is a tethered cap available for the EU?
Yes. Tell us at the quote stage; it is different cap tooling rather than an artwork change.
Can these be frozen as ice pops?
With a freezer-grade sealant, yes, and it is a common second use for the same artwork. The fitment has to be specified for cold or it becomes brittle.
How do I stop the pouch collapsing as it empties?
You do not, and that is the point — it is what makes the pack ship flat and take less shelf space empty. If the pack must hold its shape, a rigid container is the honest answer.
What shelf life can I expect?
It depends on the fill process far more than on the film. Cold filled and chilled is weeks; hot filled is months; retorted is a year or more. Tell us the process and we will specify to it.
