Kraft paper on the outside gives the uncoated, matte shelf look; a PE ply on the inside does the sealing and the moisture work. The paper is the face here, not the barrier. Because the barrier is tuned rather than maximised, there is usually room for recycled content or a recyclable mono-material build without losing the shelf life.

A reinforced hang hole carries the full fill weight on a peg without tearing, which is how a pack of coffee, grains, high-volume dry fills is usually merchandised. Side gussets let the bag expand to the fill and collapse flat when empty, which is why the format has survived in coffee.

About this pack

What It Is for, and What It Has to Survive

Where This Pack Is Used

Roasters use this pack for whole bean and ground coffee, where the problem is not spoilage but staling: roasted coffee gives off carbon dioxide for days and loses aroma to oxygen for the rest of its life. The pack has to vent the first without admitting the second.

How It Is Built

Two folded side panels that open as the bag fills, giving a tall pack on a small footprint. Per litre of contents it uses less film than any other self-standing construction.

A kraft paper face laminated to a functional inner layer. The paper carries no barrier of its own — everything protective is the liner behind it — so the pack reads as unprocessed in the hand while performing like film on the shelf.

Made on One Site

Every pouch on this site is produced in our own plant in Shenzhen, China. Film is extruded or sourced to the structure your product needs, printed by gravure from your artwork, laminated, cured, then converted on bag-making lines set up for your format and fill weight. Because those steps sit under one roof, a colour that drifts or a seal that fails a drop test is corrected on the line the same day.

Customising This Pouch

  • Size and fill. Standard fills from 100 g to 2 kg, or built to your drawing. Tell us the product and the fill weight and we will come back with a gusset depth and film gauge.
  • Barrier. Foil, metallised, transparent high-barrier or compostable, chosen against your shelf life and the market it ships to — not against a house default.
  • Closure. Zipper, child-resistant zipper, tear notch, degassing valve, tin tie, hang hole or spout. Specified at the die stage.
  • Print. Gravure from vector artwork, CMYK or Pantone, up to ten colours, matt or gloss. Spot UV and soft-touch finishes available.
  • Windows. Die-cut to your artwork rather than dropped into a stock position.

Ordering

Send us the product, the fill weight, the format and the quantity per SKU. We reply with a real quote rather than a range. Artwork goes as vector — AI, EPS, PDF or SVG with fonts outlined — and if you have no designer, our graphics team builds the dieline and lays it out for you. You approve a digital proof before any cylinder is engraved, and for colour-critical work we run a press proof on the real substrate first. See the full ordering process.

Certification and Audits

Compostable lines are certified rather than claimed: OK compost HOME and INDUSTRIAL, BPI, DIN CERTCO and AS 5810 against EN 13432, with FDA and LFGB for food contact. The plant is audited to BRCGS, Sedex, BSCI, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. More about our plant.

Frequently asked

Questions About This Pack

What is the minimum order for this pack?

1,000 pieces per artwork. The minimum applies to each design rather than to the order, so several side gusset bag designs can share one production run.

What is it made from?

Kraft paper / PE laminate, specified as medium to high barrier, specified to shelf life. The plies are chosen against the shelf life you state rather than against a house default, so the film gets heavier only where the product needs it.

How does it close?

Hang hole as standard. Also available at the die stage: window, valve, tear notch, hang hole on request. Closures are decided before tooling, because adding one afterwards means a new die.

What sizes and film thickness are available?

Fill sizes: 100 g to 2 kg standard, or built to your drawing. Film runs 50-200 microns, or to your specification. A size outside that range needs its own dieline, charged once.

What is this pack normally used for?

Coffee, grains, high-volume dry fills. That is what this side gusset bag is specified around, but the structure is set by your product rather than by the category, so tell us the fill and we work back from it.

How is the artwork printed?

Gravure from your vector artwork, up to 10 colours. Colours are matched to a cmyk or pantone reference. Send vector artwork — AI, EPS, PDF or SVG with fonts outlined — and you approve a proof before any cylinder is engraved.

What finishes and inks are used?

Finish: Matt or gloss. Printed with food-grade soy-based ink. Spot UV and soft-touch are available as a finishing pass rather than a change of structure.

Is there a recyclable or compostable version?

Recycled content or recyclable mono-material available. We quote the alternative build separately rather than claiming one pack does both, because barrier and end-of-life pull against each other.

Can I get a sample before ordering?

Stock samples free; custom samples quoted per artwork. A stock sample shows the structure and the seal; a custom sample carries your artwork and needs the same tooling as a run, so it is quoted per job.

Where is it made and how long does it take?

Made in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. 15 to 25 working days from approved proof to finished pallet, plus five to seven days for cylinder engraving on a first run. Repeats skip the engraving.
