Coffee Bags

Custom coffee bags are fitted with one-way degassing valves, because freshly roasted coffee gives off carbon dioxide for days and has to vent it without letting oxygen back in. We build flat bottom, side gusset, stand up and drip sachet formats from 100 g to 1 kg, with 250 g the worldwide standard, in kraft, foil, compostable and recycled laminates with zippers or tin ties. Whole bean needs roughly a fifth more volume than ground coffee at the same declared weight.

About coffee packaging

Coffee Bags That Protect the Roast, Not Just the Beans

Roasted coffee off-gasses carbon dioxide for days and loses aroma to oxygen for the rest of its life. A custom printed coffee bag has to let the first happen without letting the second, which is why almost everything in this range carries a one-way degassing valve and a foil or high-barrier laminate. Whole bean, ground, single origin or blend, the packaging problem is the same.

Valve, Zipper, or Both

The valve is not optional on freshly roasted coffee: bag it without one and the pack swells, or you rest the beans for days and sell them less fresh. A zipper is a separate question — worth it on a 250 g or 1 kg retail bag that is opened daily for a fortnight, and money wasted on a single-serve sachet. Most of this range runs both, with a tear notch above the zipper so the first opening is clean.

Which Structure, and Why

Kraft paper/PE with foil linerSpeciality roasters, natural shelf lookKraft scuffs; print is softer than on film

Formats in This Range

This is the deepest range on the site, and it spans three structures. Side gusset bags are the traditional 250 g and 1 kg coffee bag and the cheapest per litre of volume. Flat bottom bags give five printable panels and the strongest shelf presence. Stand up pouches with a valve suit smaller retail weights and sample packs. Sizes run 5 g and 8 oz through 250 g, 340 g, 500 g and 1 kg to 5 kg wholesale bags, plus drip coffee sachets for single-serve pour over.

Matt soft-touch finishes, clear windows over the bean, spot UV on a logo, kraft with a printed white base — all of it is gravure printed from your artwork at up to ten colours. Talk to us about print and finishing before you design, not after; where the valve and zipper land changes what the front panel can carry.

Frequently asked

Specifying Coffee Bags: The Questions That Decide It

Do I need a degassing valve?

For freshly roasted beans, yes. Coffee vents CO2 for days after roasting; without a valve the pack swells and, if it is sealed tight, it can burst.

Flat bottom or side gusset?

Flat bottom gives five printed panels and a square stand, which is what premium shelf presence looks like. Side gusset is narrower and cheaper in film for the same volume.

Does the valve let oxygen in?

No. It is one-way: gas leaves, air does not enter. That is the whole point of fitting one rather than leaving the pack loosely sealed.

Kraft or foil for coffee?

Kraft reads as craft on shelf but needs a barrier ply behind it. Foil holds the aroma longest. Most specifications end up as kraft outside with a functional inner.

Can I have a tin tie instead of a zipper?

Yes. A tin tie suits a roll-down kraft bag and costs less than a zipper; a zipper reseals more reliably on a pack that gets opened daily.

What sizes do you run for coffee?

250 g, 340 g, 500 g and 1 kg cover most retail lines, and 2 kg to 5 kg for wholesale. Non-standard weights need their own dieline.

How soon after roasting can it be packed?

That is a roasting decision, not a packaging one, but the valve is what lets you pack early rather than degassing in bulk first.

Can the bag be compostable and still hold aroma?

Yes, with a PLA/PBAT structure certified to EN 13432, at a shorter stated shelf life than foil. We quote both so the trade-off is visible.

Will the printed brown of kraft match across runs?

Kraft is a natural substrate and its base tone varies slightly by batch. For a colour-critical brand we run a press proof on the actual kraft rather than on a white liner.

Do you print the roast date panel?

We leave a clear panel in the artwork for your own date coder. Variable data printed at our end would mean a digital run, which changes the economics.
